what really matters?
American Refugee Committee (ARC) is running a campaign this December called “What really matters?” Each week there is a giving challenge, but related to the theme and this week it’s family. My family is spread out this year with everyone in Vermont and I decided to stay behind in Minnesota. Plane ticket prices were just too outrageous and I had little vacation time accrued (and I’m trying to save it up for a trip in the spring). So, Justin’s family is graciously taking me in for their family activities and I even get to be a part of the gift exchange.
Recently I had a conversation with a friend that reminded me again of how important family and community are. I have always strongly believed that were were not put on this earth to roam around and stumble along by ourselves. It just doesn’t make sense. I would never want my friends to carry the weight of sadness by themselves. Or, for that matter, the best things in life. It sounds so cliche, but it pops up as a continual truth in my life.
ARC helps refugees individuals and families to rebuild their lives after suffering through conflict and crisis. This means rebuilding their dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. This week the challenge is that if 52 people give (any amount), ARC staff will personally donate $5,275! We get to put our money where our mouths are! If this fits into how you would like to give this year, go to the home page and click on this week’s story related to family. You will also get to read about Finda Bandor’s story, a Liberian refugee. The challenge ends on Sunday!
Hope is a gift all people can share.
